If you think that clearing the path to your fuel oil or propane fill pipe is only for winter snowstorms, think again!
Sticks and stones may break your bones – but they could also block the path to your fill pipe!
Especially after this past harsh winter – when snowdrifts and snowplows may have eroded your property by damaging landscaping and tearing up turf – sticks and branches that fall from trees, pebbles and rocks, pine needles, and other debris could obstruct the entrance to your fill pipe.
And since the heating season hasn’t ended just yet, we kindly ask you to please sweep, rake, and pick up anything that might be in our delivery driver’s way. As always, thank you for helping us help you!
8 tips to rake leaves and debris safely:
- Protect your back by bending your knees, keeping your back straight, and using small, controlled strokes.
- Use a lightweight, appropriately sized rake
- Switch hands frequently to distribute the load
- Wear gloves to prevent blisters
- Rake on a calm, rather than a windy, day
- Move backward to avoid overstretching
- Consider using a tarp to transport piles
- Check with your local municipality, as rules vary significantly on how to dispose of leaves
If you are unable to clear the path to your fill pipe this spring, please ask a neighbor to help, and call us at 717-564-1657 to let us know when to reschedule your delivery. We want all our customers to stay safe!
